A few months after a family member took his life. I have moments of sudden overwhelming grief that come up on me like a wave, thinking of our family, of my son who also lost his best friend in the same fate this summer, and this fragile life. During one of these moments, I sat down with a guitar, which helps sometimes; this song just fell out.
Here is the live recording from the writing session. Though my writing recordings are not the best performance or recording... I find there is something true in my early writing files that somehow get's dampened in the later recordings.
If our music never gets heard, at least it's been cheaper than therapy. Hope you enjoy it.
In loving memory of Gregory.
lyrics
I don’t know why i’m crying
It was such a long time ago
clouds they get in my eyes
The universe hangs low
I get to thinking
What a world has become
since you’ve been gone
I guess it’s missing someone
I miss you now
I wish you'd stuck around to find out
It’s just silly clouds
The sun will never burn out
When we were young
I heard you laughing so loud
You must of shook the earth
Till something fell out
I wasn't thinking
what a world would become
After the laughter's gone
And I’m missing someone
I miss you now
I wish you'd stuck around to find out
It’s just silly clouds
The sun will never burn out
Oh i can’t watch the news
There's nothing to be done
people will storm
and we block out the sun
I get to thinking
What a world it could be
If i only reached out
To the hand
Next to me
It's a great Americana mood album. I played a show and camped with this duo at Kerrville Folk Festival and they are also great people with a powerful live presence. ezra vancil
Ran into this on the ISC awards.. great feeling to the sonics of this recording. The sonics of it are what I come back to listen to.. it doesn't hurt that the songs are also fantastic trips. ezra vancil
